Family Action in Rogerfield and Easterhouse

Learning Centre

Family Action in Rogerfield and Easterhouse is proud to host one of the learning centres which form part of the Greater Easterhouse Learning Network.

The centre is equipped with 6 fast new PCs with fast connections to the Internet through the college network.

The centre has been completely refurbished to give wheelchair access and the same high standard of decor as in the new main college buildings. Linked to the local college, this facility enables local people to attend their local centre (in a network of fifteen) and gain or develop their IT skills at a time, location and pace, which suit them.

A flexible learning service is supported by a tutor on a weekly basis with access to the centre at other times as well. Every Tuesday night, between 5.00 – 8.00pm there’s a tutor who comes in to provide flexible support for learning about computers at different stages of skills development – including those using a computer for the first time. Everyone on the courses can work at their own pace at their own individual programmes – and the centre is available most of the week for practice while the tutor’s away elsewhere.

The learning centre is designed for people to use it for their studies at college, for the computer courses available for people who are just beginning as well as those who want to do more advanced computer courses like the European Computer Driving License, and for people who just want a quiet place to use the centre to find whatever information it is they need to improve their lives.

The learning centre is intended to support learning of all kinds, and is part of the wider range of services and activities we provide.

Trained centre staff are able to support people in their use of the computer systems, making it easy to get a start.

The centre has been used already to provide an extra focus for youth work, providing the opportunity for young people in the area to express themselves as part of project work – leading to the decision made at a display of work at the 2003 AGM that a new web focus can be provided, allowing young people in the area to exhibit the results of their work to the rest of the world.

Please give us a call or call in to have a look and talk about what difference it could make to you.
