Areas of Speciality
Family support: Anne McCann
Partnership Working
Liasing with other agencies with a view to improving
life for families in the area has resulted in the provision
of a range of services. The free toothbrush programme,
improving dental hygiene and Kids & Co Fruit Scheme
– providing good quality, low cost fruit. These
are 2 examples of small practical support measures,
which can make a big difference. They can enable a family,
who once constantly struggled, to make ends meet –
maybe even save a little at the local Credit Union,
which is linked to Bishoploch.
Adult Literacy
We have adult literacy support here at FARE which provides
one to one help with reading and writing skills for
anyone who feels they need confidential support with
these issues. Meeting times will be set up between both
parties involved.
Many Hands Make Light Work
Support is provided for local families tailored to
their individual needs. This could involve everything
from helping to paint the kitchen after a fire, encouraging
kids to attend school on a regular basis, change the
odd nappy, or feed the baby at times when mum wishes
she had 4 arms. In some cases all mum needs is someone
to make her a cup of tea, have a chat to, or offer a
bit of friendly advice.
Girls, Girls, Girls
The personal development course for girls is delivered
in local primary schools and has been significantly
‘overhauled’ in the past year, to keep it
fresh and topical for the participants. The course,
known as the Friendship Group, prepares primary seven
girls for the new challenges they will face during this
transitional period of their lives.
