Sports
Club
Easterhouse is a very territorial area with young people
from different districts seldom mixing socially or accessing
facilities in other areas.
The aim of the sports club is to bring together pupils
from schools in two different areas (Rogerfield and
Blairtummock) prior to moving to secondary school. It
also seeks to increase their knowledge of, and ability
in, a variety of different sports.
Several sports clubs are run by FARE, ranging from
teenage football to basketball. As part of the youth
club programme we also take groups out of the building
to take part in fun games sessions.
Commonwealth Games
Last July, a group of six young people were taken to
Manchester to experience the XVII Commonwealth Games.
The primary six pupils from schools in the Rogerfield,
Commonhead and Blairtummock areas, entered a competition
run by FARE. They were asked to take part in a Mini
Commonwealth Games, draw a poster or submit a written
piece of work explaining why they should be selected
to go to Manchester or highlight what the Commonwealth
Games mean to them. The lucky six were then given the
opportunity to attend the events.
Coach Development/Mentoring
Last year two local teenagers helped with the running
of FARE’s football team. One of the teenagers
were provided with the opportunity to take part in a
mentoring project in conjunction with the S.F.A and
Glasgow City Council. This enabled him to work alongside
S.F.A. qualified coaches and use that experience to
help develop the football skills of other local youngsters. |
