Auchinlea Retail students land more jobs at Glasgow Fort !!

photo of Auchinlea Retail studentsThe latest group of students to complete the Auchinlea Retail Training Programme have received certificates to mark the end of their college-based training - and the beginning of their future careers!!

Most of the students, who have been studying computing, communications and customer service skills, are looking forward to moving on to a range of customer-focussed and retail jobs at the exciting new Glasgow Fort shopping centre in Easterhouse, just off the M8 Motorway. Next, Argos and T K Maxx are just a few of the employers who’ve benefitted from the students’ new skills.

The partnership between Greater Easterhouse Development Company (GEDC) and John Wheatley College has now successfully produced four groups of students, most of whom have gone on to carve careers for themselves at the Glasgow Fort Retail Centre. The fifth training programme will be commencing on 25th October and is open to all local residents who feel they might benefit from some basic part-time training to brush up their skills before applying for jobs.

Chief Executive of the Greater Easterhouse Development Company, Ronnie Saez, said,
“The strong partnership between the employers, ourselves and the College has helped local residents to take advantage of the remarkable job opportunities here on their doorstep. With the support of European Social Funding, the Auchinlea Retail Skills Programme has ensured that the Glasgow Fort development has maximum positive impact at a very local level, with excellent knock-on effects for the rest of the local and wider communities. Congratulations and well done to these successful students!”

The delighted students were presented with their certificates by Alan Inglis, Assistant Principal of John Wheatley College, who remarked,
“It’s great to see our students progressing on to steady, well-paid jobs in their local community and the College is very proud of what each one has achieved so far with the commitment of themselves and our staff. We’re looking forward to supporting the next group of learners on this innovative programme.”

If you’re interested in becoming one of these learners, please contact GEDC on 0141 771 5591 for more details.
