Community Enterprise Centre Garthamlock - 20th Anniversary

1982 - The Unemployed Workers Centres were established through the introduction of a Scottish Trade Union Congress Policy in an attempt to strengthen the link between the employed and the unemployed. The success of the centres would not have been possible without the on-going support from the STUC, the continued support from the local community and many partners and in particular the main funding / support provided by Glasgow City Council. The Community Enterprise Centre Garthamlock is one of five remaining centres within Greater Glasgow.

The Community Enterprise Centre Garthamlock (GEDC) began providing a wide range of services within the local community twenty years ago, known at that time as Garthamlock Unemployed Workers Centre.

1984 - The centre comprised of a Porto cabin located adjacent to Garthamlock and Craigend East Parish Church

1991 - The project was relocated to the annexe of Woodcroft School and renamed Garthamlock Unemployed & Community Resource Centre.

1996 - We “Flitted” again to the present location at 22 Barholm Square, The centre was refurbished at that time through a grant allocated by the Greater Easterhouse Development Company.
2001 - The centre amalgamated with the Greater Easterhouse Development Company Limited in accordance with a policy decision taken by the Glasgow City Council and adopted it’s present name, Community Enterprise Centre Garthamlock.

Where Next
The Garthamlock Community over the coming months, as part of the Regeneration Programme will be dramatically transformed. Discussions are on-going regarding the long term future of the centre as part of this New Development.
