Local History Group Lands Lottery Funding!
The
Trondra Local History Group, set up three years ago to help bring
alive Greater Easterhouse’s heritage and past, has just
been given a huge boost from the Heritage Lottery’s ‘Awards
for All’ initiative.
They’ve received a heart-stopping £4,900 to help
them take their exciting finds to the community through the production
of an absorbing book on the area’s history.
The group has been supported by John Wheatley College, Glasgow
City Council’s Open Museum and the National Library for
Scotland, and has already established a 3D exhibit, leaflet and
interesting website through the Pathfinder website.
Involving several local celebrities and dignitaries, the Trondra
Group’s previous efforts have been acknowledged nationally
through their selection as winners of a Scottish Adult Learner’s
Award in 2003.
The delighted students, pictured here surrounded by historical
maps of the local area, are delighted with this further recognition
of their efforts and are keen to thank everyone who has supported
their project over the years.
They’re also really keen to hear from anyone who would
be interested in joining the group or who might have some stories,
local knowledge or artefacts they could contribute. If that sounds
like YOU, please contact Laura Edwards on 588 1500.
