14-17yrs YOUTH CLUB FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Wednesday saw the finale of the Youth Club Football League at
Stepford Sports Park. Eight teams took part through a variety
of organisations throughout Easterhouse and neighbouring Coatbridge:
The Safety Zone, FARE, The Pavillion, Wellhouse Further Employment
Initiative, Muirton Football Club, The Bosco Centre and Glasgow
City Council Youth Services entered teams into the league.
The purpose of the league was to help break down territorial
barriers between young people in the area by bringing them together
to play football in a league, with an emphasis on participation,
sportsmanship and fun.
FARE finished top of the league and were presented with the winners
trophy by Councillor Ronnie Quinn who said: "The organisers
have to be congratulated for this great event and well done to
all at FARE on winning the League”
The fair play award was given to The Safety Zone and the man
of the tournament was awarded to Ian White from The BOSCO Centre.
The League has proved a great success. Teams showed commitment
by turning up every week to play regardless of their position
in the league and they also showed a tremendous amount of sportsmanship
on the pitch throughout the tournament.
Most importantly of all the young people who took part really
enjoyed it!! Here are some of their comments on their participation
in the league:
“It was good cause it was a chance to meet new people.”
“It was very enjoyable cause there was no violence”
“It was class!”
