Your views are wanted!
We’re asking for your views on local learning priorities for the new Community Learning and Development Action Plan 2008-11.
The Lifelong Learning Group of the local Community Planning Partnership for the Shettleston, Baillieston and Greater Easterhouse area is working on the development of the Community Learning and Development Action Plan 2008-11, and we’re asking for your views on local learning priorities.
You can email your views to; communityconsultation@jwheatley.ac.uk .
Planning approach and framework
The planning approach is based on an initial consultation event held back in June, which concluded that we should be:
- Working together to identify outcomes, outcome measures, processes, inputs and output measures;
- Building on existing partnerships and involving the most relevant groups to broaden the views represented in the plan, and encouraging ‘buy-in’ for proposed actions.
The plan should:
- Reflect existing partner contributions and develop next steps;
- Reflect what’s different about what partners do together from what they each do anyway;
- Include targets for engaging local communities in planning, delivering and evaluating community learning and development; and
- Highlight how community learning and development outcomes contribute to broader community planning outcomes.
Initial priorities
Since then, the Lifelong Learning Group’s executive committee has agreed initial priorities for the community learning and development action plan as follows:
Adults
- Adult literacy and numeracy;
- Employability;
- Signposting and progression;
- Early intervention/ those not in education employment or training/ hard to reach groups;
- Celebration of learning.
Young people
- Youth literacies;
- Financial literacy;
- Streetwork;
- Involvement in decision-making;
- Preventative measures to support young people to stay in education, employment, or training.
Community capacity supporting learning
- Extension of the learning network from Greater Easterhouse to other neighbourhoods in the planning area;
- Information; newsletter, website, text, community planning information;
- Community involvement and engagement;
- Training for individuals and groups;
- SVQ and HNC opportunities;
- Volunteering; and
- Implementation of the national community engagement standards.
Further consultation
The next stage of the process is to consult:
- Other members of the Lifelong Learning Group;
- The local Youth Network;
- The Community Planning Partnership Board;
- The recently appointed Community Engagement Team;
- The Capacity Building Group;
- The Greater Easterhouse Learning Network’s learning centre hosts;
- Adult Literacy and Numeracy providers; and
- The Employment and Training Forum.
