Another fun filled Family Learning Week in local community centres

The week long event from 21st -25th January was coordinated by John Wheatley College in partnership with local community organisations and five of the thirteen local learning centres, including the Calvay, Garthamlock, the Hub, Bishoploch and Glenburn.

Learning about local support

People of all ages from the Greater Easterhouse area found out about what advice, information and support services are available in their local area.

IT for all and everyone

There was also the opportunity for the children to do Internet treasure hunts about animals and do animal art activities at a different Learning Centre each day. Teenagers were able to use the IT facilities to access a range of learning activities as well as play the latest computer games.  Adults were able to read newspapers online and research their family history on the Internet.

Comments from the Learning Centers

Anna Marie Campbell, Community Development Officer at the Hub in Wellhouse said:

“There was a good variety of information available to local residents on how to access childcare, training and learning opportunities and a bit of entertainment thrown in for good measure. I am looking forward to more local people getting involved in the next Family Learning Week in May.

Pauline McKenzie, Centre Manager at Bishoploch Hall said:

“The management committee, staff and parents found the family learning day very interesting and were impressed by the amount of information, fun activities and learning opportunities available for both adults and children at no cost, locally and in the Greater Easterhouse Area.  Our thanks to John Wheatley College for their continuous support and excellent help".

The support from John Wheatley College was provided on the day by Brian McQuillan, Network Learning Support Officer and Dean Pattison, Community Education Student, University of Strathclyde.
