John Wheatley College rakes in more environmental awards
John Wheatley College’s commitment to environmental and social issues, especially at its new East End Campus, has received yet more recognition and have been ‘Highly Commended’ in the ‘Green Gown Awards’ by the Higher Education Environmental Performance Improvement (HEEPI) project.
The Awards recognise excellence in efforts to reduce carbon emissions and increase energy efficiency. John Wheatley College’s new campus already boasts a wide range of environmentally-friendly features, including a bio-mass boiler, solar panels and a grey-water recycling system.
The College’s Easterhouse campus is also undergoing a retro-fit to upgrade its energy efficiency.
Prof. Peter James, Co-Director of HEEPI said:
This year’s Awards demonstrate that many institutions are responding well, and highlight many innovations to create greater environmental awareness amongst students and the communities which they and the staff live within.
College Principal, Ian Graham, said:
The College is delighted to once again be recognised for the contribution it is making towards energy efficiency. The new East End campus building, and the soon to be upgraded Easterhouse campus, are prime examples of sustainable construction at its best and we are keen to see how this will be replicated in all new building projects throughout our community in the coming years.
