When you are entering the room to your left, from the courtyard, you find yourself standing in what was the kitchen.

To the left in the room is the fireplace used to prepare meals. This was capable of taking logs, some ten foot in length and able to roast the fore-quarters of an ox.

Barrel vaulted ceiling

Barrel vaulted ceiling in Provanhall House. The barrel vaulted ceilings in the bottom of the house is one of the best in Scotland. This was built using the key stone method, in the same manner as the Romans started to build bridges 2500 years ago .

After the meal was prepared in the kitchen it was passed next door to the dairy where the dairy products would be added to the meal.

Next room in the tour: The Dairy

You get access to the Dairy from the courtyard.
