Local Youth Consultation 2006

In February 2006 young people across the area took part in a series of events where a questionnaire was used to gauge views of young people to local youth work programmes and future developments.

Here are some “snapshots” of what was said.

  • 67.3% said that they had heard about or been involved in Young Voices magazine.

  • 49.6% said that they had heard about or been involved in Easterhouse FM (Internet Radio).

  • 65.5% said that they had heard about or been involved in YouthBank.

  • 63.6% said that they had hear about or been involved in the Breaking Barriers Scheme (territorialism programme over last summer holidays).

  • 54.2% said that they had heard about or had been involved in the Youth Access Project ( using computers and media technology in local learning centres).

  • 62.6% said that they wanted to know more about what the Youth Network does.

They wanted this to happen by:

  • Text 20.6%.
  • Young Voices magazine 18.7%.
  • Website /email 15%.

The second most popular choice was:

  • Through youth workers and school staff 18.7%.
  • Leaflets /posters 14%.

Young said their most popular way of getting involved was:

  • By working together with other young people 21.5% .
  • Attending a meeting where I can have my say 20.6%.

Their second choice was by:

  • Telling the youth workr at my local club 19.6%.
  • Teing part of a small group 15%.

What worried them most in their area was:

  • Safety /crime 29.9%.
  • Drugs /alcohol/ smoking 18.7%.
  • Lack of facilities and things to do 17.8%.

What else worried them:

  • Freedom to move between areas 16.8%

76.6% said that they would take part in activities at the weekend:

  • Sports 40%.
  • Music 24.3%.
  • Arts 15.9%.
  • Dance 15%.

Where would you like this to take place:

  • Local organisation 36.4%.
  • Local community hall 24.3%.

Best time of day:

  • Evening 55.1%
  • Afternoon 35.5%

If there was accost how much would they pay?

  •  £1.00 -£1.50 54.2%
